Why I Strongly Oppose Contact Tracing And Anything That Goes Along With It

By Dave Levine

I honestly knew little about “contact tracing” until I read this report by Emily Waltz at IEEE Spectrum. After reading her report (an interview with an Indian professor at MIT who has developed a contact tracing app that he claims is not intrusive), I am strongly opposed to it and hope more Americans join me in opposing it. Waltz asks some cogent questions and should be commended for posting this.

Government overreach, snitching, spying on citizens, loss of privacy–so much of what is going on today is scary and must be stopped. As we know, technology has gone beyond our wildest dreams and government–along with big business gazillionaires like Bill Gates–have acquired incredible power. Snitching on your neighbors because of the power of an app is really sick–AND scary!

Please join me in opposing contact tracing for COVID-19! Not only is it insidious, privacy-wise–it’s an impossible task that will result in the shaming of people and can, as in South Korea, result in vigilantism.
