San Jose’s Attempt To Give Homeless Tiny Shacks Without Bathrooms And Place Them In Residential Communities Comes Under Attack From Homeowners
My version of title by Ramona Giwargis at The San Jose Mercury News.
Many homeless are mentally ill and belong in mental institutions. The Lanterman-Petris-Short Act of 1971–created by liberals to empty out CA’s mental institutions–was a disaster that has not to this day been corrected. Giving these derelicts homes isn’t the answer. They should be institutionalized.
The non-mentally-ill homeless are another matter. Still, many of these folks WANT to be homeless. Some have drug and alcohol issues.
Homeowners in the communities that the city of San Jose wants to place the homeless mini-houses in have every right to protest “not in MY neighborhood”! Crime and homeless causes property values to decline and their make these communities less safe.
The Dave Levine Show opposes this effort by San Jose. Homelessness is a national issue but in California’s case, it comes down to one law that never should have passed in 1971.
