By Dave Levine

A sob story by Goeffrey Mohan today at The L.A. Times leaves a lot of facts out–important facts and I posit, THE most important facts on why Mexican farmworkers on the H-2A Visa Program don’t return to work in the fields (and why farmers say there’s a shortage of said workers). It’s not because they experience bigotry or vigilantism. It’s because they abscond to the ‘burbs and cities for higher-paying, less back-breaking work!

Mohan fails to even MENTION the word “abscond” or any variation of it, yet absconding–breaking their visa agreement with our government–makes them illegal aliens subject to arrest, fines, jail time and deportation.

It would be one thing if Mohan “covered all his bases” but like so many so-called “reporters” at left-wing rags, he conveniently avoids mentioning the obvious. The last thing he wants to do is put these alien farmworkers in a bad light. Yet, he fails to mention crime statistics for alien farmworkers.

If you peruse online “alien farmworker crime statistics”, all you will find are sob stories about how Mexican guest workers are being raped and otherwise treated poorly. However, the vast majority of those rapes are by their own, fellow Mexican guest workers, not Americans. Mohan actually shows a photo from 1936 in the same field as his subject, a farmer named Greg France. The photo depicts a thin woman with her children, people in poverty. The left LOVES these stories and photos. What they DON’T show, of course, are the millions of illegal aliens living and working here illegally driving brand new SUVs and other vehicles and clearly living the good life, mostly off the American taxpayer.

Mohan quotes Spreckles company CEO Rick Antle as saying that alien farmworkers are sending most of their earnings back to Mexico instead of spending it here where it stays in the U.S. Whose fault IS that–American citizens’? No! Personal responsibility is a big issue with many folks. The alien came here to work to take care of his family back in Mexico. You can’t blame them for that! What happened was…the U.S. government and BigAg didn’t care (and some would say still don’t care) about dollars leaving the U.S. for good–about $40 billion or more per year from aliens sending dollars they earn back to their families. They wanted cheap labor–they got it! But now, there are 50 to 70 million illegal aliens in the U.S. as well as legal aliens, some of whom still send money out of the country never to be seen again. I’ve seen figures as high as $200 billion per year. This is simply an issue that cannot be resolved unless the U.S. stops bringing in H-2A aliens and tells farmers to “go with machines” for harvesting crops and that probably is never going to happen. But H-2A workers number only about 2 million. There would still be no way to stop the 50 to 70 million illegals from sending U.S. dollars outside the country until they (the millions of illegals) are deported.

Mohan brings up “the Bracero Program”, a very successful program in the West and Southwest that allowed mostly male Mexican nationals to work temporarily in U.S. fields during the WWII years to December 1964. What Mohan would never tell you is the fact that millions of these aliens refused to return to Mexico as per the agreement between the two governments forcing President Eisenhower to initiate Operation Wetback where the U.S. forcibly returned 1.5 million illegal alien Mexicans, many of them braceros.

To say that the MSM–and The L.A. Times in particular–is a big part of the illegal alien lobbying arm and by extension, the H-2A alien farmworkers would be a gross understatement. Trying to illicit sympathy and support for a cause (Amnesty for 50 to 70 million illegal aliens in the U.S.) while vilifying Americans who oppose Amnesty and who may for very good reasons not want alien workers living next to them (which Mohan brands as “bigotry” and not simply common sense) exposes these leftists for what they are–anti-law and order, anti-American and bigoted towards patriotic Americans whom they brand “nativists”.
