Kerman, CA Cockfighting Ring Busted, 1 Person Charged With Felony Cruelty To Animals, 114 Birds Seized, 25 Dead

The above is my version of title by Cory James at abc30.com.

California has the 4th toughest laws against animal cruelty. Illinois is #1 followed by Oregon and Maine. New York is #40 and Kentucky has the weakest laws.

The Humane Society says:

The states that have the fewest penalties for cockfighting are:

Alabama, Mississippi, Idaho, Kentucky and Arkansas.

They also state:

  • Tens of thousands of people are involved in cockfighting nationwide.
  • Common cockfighting practices include breeding birds for viciousness, drugging them to heighten aggression and fitting their legs with razor-sharp knives or gaffs, which resemble curved ice picks.
  • Law enforcement raids across the country have revealed that cockfights, which are frequently attended by children, often involve gambling, illegal drugs and, as a result of the large amounts of cash present, firearms and other weapons are also often present.

What they left out are two words–illegal aliens. Many of those involved in cockfighting are illegals. 50 illegals were busted in Detroit at an underground cockfight last month.

Talk about “cruel and unusual punishment”! These poor birds are tortured!

Animal cruelty is a HUGE problem in the U.S. and must be snuffed out where we find it. Slaps on the wrist do absolutely no good.
