Governor Abbott: Arizona’s 1070 Law Is Stricter Than SB 4 As It Requires Law Enforcement To Ask For Immigration Proof

The above is my version of the title an interview with the Governor by Breitbart Texas and reported exclusively by Bob Price at Breitbart.

Governor Abbott said,

“The so-called controversial part of this law is what some label as the “show your papers” component,” the Texas governor explained. “And what everyone seems to get wrong is they think that that provision was stricken down in the Arizona law. To the contrary, the provision in the Arizona law is stricter than the Texas law. The Arizona law required that law enforcement ASK for papers. The Texas law does not require it, it allows it so there is that one difference.”

In last night’s post, I called SB 4 “1070 on steroids”. However, I wasn’t referring to the Texas law being stricter in terms of police asking suspects for their immigration status. I was referring to the criminal penalties against Sheriffs, Chiefs of Police, officers or deputies defying the Texas law which is not found in Arizona’s 1070.
